The hair replacement industry has made miraculous advancements since the 1970's and 1980's. It went from local barber shops and individuals working in one or two rooms, making and selling what was referred to at that time as "hair pieces and toupees" using clips and tapes as attachment methods. There are now large hair replacement companies with 20 to 30 employees using state of the art technology.
During this forty year period, the industry was constantly striving to find the ultimate hair replacement and methods of attachment that would dispute a person's hair and scalp.
This created a need for research and development. Hundreds of hair replacement centers opened and dozens of factories were built to achieve that goal. And with the ingenuity shared between the centers and factories they did develop the ultimate hair replacements and the unbelievable technology to match them.
With these new methods the hair replacements of today are totally undetectable. Even under close eye scrutiny, the hair appears to be growing out of the scalp. Even running ones fingers through the hair feels as if it was their own hair.
And best of all, one can swim, play ball, water ski, bungee jump, shower, sleep and do any type of activity and the hair works as if it were their own.
Because of this new technology and business that was once a man's domain, it has attracted thousands of women that have hair loss to these new methods. In fact, some of the centers' client's are approaching 50% women.
Another recent discovery is laser light therapy. This laser light is applied to the scalp with equipment that resembles a salon hair dryer. Depending on the equipment, the treatment takes from 15 to 30 minutes and is absolutely painless. You feel nothing. The laser, using red light diodes, can stop hair loss and can, depending on the type of hair loss, grow new hair.
The hair replacement industry today is growing very rapidly and continuing to bring new technology to the consumer.
